Our Staff

We have the BEST teachers around!! Most of our senior staff have been at The Mustard Seed for at least 10 years, showing their dedication to our center. All of our teachers are loving, kind, and creative. You can absolutely trust that your child is the being cared for by an amazing team of teachers!
Christy Costello

DIRECTOR

I have worked at The Mustard Seed for almost 15 years. I married my husband, Sean, on 12-13-14. I have 3 amazing children, Ryan, Caylee, and Jason but my heart belongs to my grandson, Killian. I have a gorgeous Himalayan cat named Kara and a bearded dragon named Molly. I love anything outdoors...camping, hiking,  fishing,  or just relaxing in a chair reading.

Melissa Shoemaker

LEAD TEACHER

 I’ve been at the Mustard Seed since 2005 but I’ve been working with preschoolers for almost 30 years. I will be celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary this coming November 2019. I have three gorgeous adult daughters, Morgan, Megan, and Michaela. I also have 3 cats, Kuu, Gwenny, and Leo. I love to travel. My two favorite places are the beach and DisneyWorld!

KITCHEN COORDINATOR

My experience at The Mustard Seed began when my daughter, Emma, attended school here when she was 3. Shortly after, I began working here as the kitchen coordinator. I have a wonderful husband, Jim and 2 sons, Zach and Keegan.

I have been at The Mustard Seed since 2008 when I moved here from Maryland where I was born and raised. I have a son, Jesse and a daught​er, Sandy. I also have 3 gorgeous grandsons who call me Mimi. I love working with the 2 year olds at our center!

My name is Miss Stephanie and I have been at The Mustard Seed for over 10 years. I am the mother of a beautiful daughter and 2 handsome sons.

LEAD TEACHER

My name is Ms. Angel. I'm born and raised in the Martinsburg area and am a mother of 3 wonderful children. I have been at The Mustard Seed for about 9 years now and and love being a teacher to our Littlest seed members! I spend my free time volunteering for Girl Scouts, reading and spending time with my family.

Sonja Stotler

ASSISTANT TEACHER

I was born in PG County, MD but returned to Berkley Springs where my family is originally from when I was 5. I have a son, Ryan, that graduated from Berkely Springs High School in 2019 and a daughter, Shannon, that will graduate in 2020. I have two wonderful puppies, Jazzy and Jasper. I have been at The Mustard Seed since 2011 and love working with the Preschool 1 classroom.

I'm married with three children, one girl and two boys. I've been with the Mustard Seed for five years now. I enjoy time with my family and reading. I love to help and watch children grow. Below are a list of a few favorites:

ASSISTANT TEACHER

My name is Brittany Matzureff. I was born in Winchester, VA but was raised in Martinsburg, WV. I am married and have 2 beautiful daughters. I am an assistant at The Mustard Seed and absolutely love my job. I truly enjoy being around children and being able to help them learn and grow.

TEACHER AIDE

I have worked at The Mustard Seed since I was a junior in high school. I currently study Psychology at Shepherd University. I love animals, especially my cat, Leo. I really enjoy listening to music and going to concerts. My favorite place to be is at Disney World!

ASSISTANT TEACHER

I am Nicole, but the kids call me Miss Coco. I’m from Chile and now live in Martinsburg with my husband. I have many years of experience with childcare and love my job. My hobbies include reading, baking, watching tv and going for a hike here and there. My favorite thing to do is travel.

I am currently 17 years old and will graduate from Berkeley Springs High School in May of 2020. I have been with the Mustard Seed a little over a year now. After college, I plan on going into early childhood education. I enjoy being around the little ones.

I am 17 years  old and I will graduate May of 2020 from Hedgesville High School. I have been working at The Mustard Seed for a little over a year now. I have been a Girl Scout for about 12 years. I’m also in 4-H and I absolutley love horses.
